Location
This was taken in Trafalgar Square, right by the fourth plinth which used to stand empty and is now being used as a rolling art exhibition. It was at the end of the One & Other project, created by Antony Gormley (who also created the Angel of the North), where members of the public had an hour each on the plinth to do whatever they wished. There were quite a few up there in the nude, but my friend Tom read stories to his teddy bear at 4am, while having a teddy bears' picnic. Here, Mr Gormley signs his shirt while a sound technician affixes a microphone in preparation for a live television interview with the artist.Time
It was a damp October morning, around 8am-8.30am.Lighting
The grey skies made for a good, flat light. I don't like using flash, so I was pretty lucky really!Equipment
I use a Canon 450D, and in this case a Sigma 70-300 lens.Inspiration
This is just one of many photos I took that day, as my friend had asked me to accompany him to capture it for posterity. I took the opportunity to practice candids!Editing
I fiddled with the light levels and cropped, nothing fancy! I shoot in JPEG because I'd rather spend more time taking pictures than in front of the computer converting from RAW!In my camera bag
Just the camera, the Sigma lens and the 18-55 lens that came with it. Nothing fancy, I try to see the completed image through the viewfinder, even envisaging how I will crop it later.Feedback
Look for the unusual angles. Squirm into the middle of a crowd and then look behind you, duck down and point the lens up. Then you pray the camera focuses on the right thing...!
