Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in nearby botanical garden.

Time

It was probably late afternoon.

Lighting

It was a cloudy day. I didn't use any additional lightning.

Equipment

This was taken with Fuji FinePix HS10 camera and Raynox DCR-250 macro conversion lens. I don't own this camera anymore, because I upgraded on DSLR, but this Fuji camera and Raynox macro lens made a great combination for macro pictures. This photo was done handheld.

Inspiration

At that time I was very interested in macro photography. Bugs, when viewed oversized are somehow fantastic and scary and remind me on alien creatures in sci-fi movies. You can only see their fascinating forms through macro photography.

Editing

No, just a usuall process of contrast and colour rendition.

In my camera bag

Now I own a Nikon DSLR and seven different lenses. If I go on a photo shooting on purpose, than I take only lenses that I think will best serve me for the mission. If I'm on travel or I don't know what will capture my interest, I have three lenses in my bag: 10-20mm, 50mm, and 28-300mm.

Feedback

Animals of all kinds have their own rhythm of living and it's good to find out when they'll appear and how they'll behave. Like, after the rain they are usually more calm then before and therefore easier to capture. Too much sun again is not the best situation because many parts of bugs tends to be reflective. Even slight wind will cause difficulties in super macro photography. You need a lot of patience and steady hand. I found tripod pretty clumsy for that kind of macro photography. Monopod is sometimes good choise.
