Blue is the colour that we relate to cold, lost and shiver. In this park there are 3 different kind of lights; green, blue and white. With the mist in that night I did want to combine it with the blue light in the central paved area and the white lanterns on the side. This together with the mist made it really feel cold when you're looking at this photo and that was exactly the look that I wanted to create.Equipment
On this occasion I was still using my older camera (which I still sometimes use), Fujibilm Finepix HS30EXR it is a bridge camera with fixed lens. I did use a tripod for composition since it is easier to let the live view show you if you are taking the shot perfect horizontal and you can use a matrix on the screen to balance the shot with the lights in places where you want them. I rather take more time for 1 perfect shot with good preperation and carefully looking at composition especially when I know I am in a safe environment to do so.Inspiration
The combination of light and mist already did catch my eyes a couple of times, but never the right moment when it was too late and the sun was already about to come up or it was too early and people were still riding bicycles or walking their dogs. For the right photo it is a combination of seeing the place, waiting for the right time and with nature a little bit of luck.Editing
In this case I did in lightroom tweak the blue a little bit to express it even more, but this was really only a bit. At this time I was not yet capable of doing much more with lightroom. With courses and using youtube and other channels I developed more skills but for this one tweaking the blues only was sufficient to give the look that I wanted in this work.In my camera bag
At the moment I always go on tour with the finepix HS30EXR, with polarized filter and standard with UV for protection. Next to that I bring my D7100 of Nikon with the 18-35mm Sigma 1.8 lens (with polarized and UV filter as well) and the SB910 speedlight. I also do always bring spare batteries for speedlight and both camera's, for both camera's a remote control and the mefoto globetrotter. Next to the more stabalized tripods, this is the easiest and best to carry around, even walking with it all day, doesn't create back problems. At the moment I am saving for the Nikkor 24-70mm that I did hire now for 2 occasions and is a truly magnificient lens worth every penny, this will be my new year gift in January or February 2015.Feedback
Capturing moments is sometimes a combination of looking at your area, observations on differrent times of the day and night. Different seasons or weather patterns can create a whole different look of the same frame. Sometimes it is wise to capture the place in a notebook and think a little bit longer about what can make that place give the expression you are looking for. Preperation and thinking in advance can make a huge difference. What I told above also, please bring your tripod, a tripod is good for stabalizing a shot, to get rid of any shakes, but use it also as a tool for composition. with the camera already on the tripod it is difficult to compose, so first walk around the place with the camera and look through the viewfinder or live view if you prefer that. Only when you think you have it, then put the camera on the tripod and move a little to the left en right to see if that changes the overall look. Before you finally take the shot, go with your eyes from corner to corner in your screen (live view now), this to make sure that there is not a distracting object in the corner or if you are better of moving your camera a bit to hide a distraction in mist, shadow or behind a tree. I do think that taking more time before you actually take a shot, can make the work a lot more special. Last but not least; better taking a look 3 times at your viewfinder before you take the shot and to make sure (expecially in the mist) make 3 photos.
