Behind The Lens

Location
I took this portrait in a small rice field, Guguk Malintang Village, Padang Panjang, The West of Sumatra, Indonesia.
Time
A rainy day in Feb 28th 2011 about 1 pm.
Lighting
For this split-second shot, I did not use any lighting equipment, because the sun gave me lot available light.
Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS 7D with 85mm f/1.8 and no other equipment was involved.
Inspiration
I think the easiest way to bring emotion into a picture is through the facial expression of others. I really feel a gently smile of this great farmer... a great grandma.
Editing
Before I captured the picture, I usually think about what and how the composition I will made. It is more difficult when I combined with art, unique creatifity, and even need one perfect time to clicked the shutter. So I choose 85mm lens with f/1.8 and 1/3200sec then iso 250. Sure I made it in RAW for the best quality.
In my camera bag
I am a traveller and a journalist, so I always bring my Nikon or Canon or both, with two kind lens. One is for landscape or fish-eye, I use Tokina 11-16mm, and for any situation journalistic moment I use a monster Nikkor 18-300mm.
Feedback
To capture a portrait with movement, it is need sun light enough, but the best time to shot in morning after 8 am where the subject face in front of the light. Important thing is be sure you use high speed exposure.
