This is awesome! I love your colours! :) Are those meant to be blood stains on the circus tent?! If so, awesome detail! I think there is something attractive about the more grim side of this image.

I had the opportunity to photograph in a school portrait studio I worked at. My employer gave me special permission to photograph this band's promo photos. This image was photographed on a very large cyclorama. The cyclorama was large enough to photograph automobiles if necessary.Time
As this was captured in studio, the time of day is a bit hard to recall. But it was an all day event photographing this series of images.Lighting

I met this band in Charlotte, NC at a show in a small coffee shop. Their music was all original. Creepy, dark, polka, circus, rock is the best way to describe their sound. After seeing them play I approached the frontman, Jason Renegar, to ask if he would like to set up a photosession for his band and that I wanted to do a dark, creepy, circus photoshoot. He was excited at the chance to create some unique promo photos for his band.Editing
I added in some dark textures, using overlay and multiply in Photoshop. I also had to remove some lighting equipment that was visible in a corner. In my camera bag
I own a Canon 7d I have two Tamron lenses are my go to choices to photograph portraits. I always have them with me. My cellphone. I bet that sounds weird, but smart phones just keep getting smarter. I tend to use several apps to remember locations I want to shoot at, lighting for the specific location and what time of day is best, and pinterest. I definitely get some intense inspiration for posing, editing, mood, expression and more from pinterest. If my explanation to my subject falls short when describing what I want, I whip out my phone and show them.Feedback
When we began to shoot this session, I told the band members, "This is a performance, so be the character you are." It worked really well, because things got crazy. The other thing I want to say is that this set was extremely cheap. We set our budget goal and stuck to it. Everyone rose to the challenge. We spent the better part of a month organizing what each person would bring to the table. The floor was naturally white from the cyclorama, so to create the checkerboard, we stuck black cardstock to the floor, alternating spaces so it would look checkered. The tent was a pop-up tent from walmart that the band bought. They went to goodwill, bought old sheets, then bought black sharpies, and red craft paint and painted the stripes onto the sheets. The sheets were hung over the top of the pop-up tent and safety pinned together to make it hang how we needed. Other items such as garments were bought from thrift stores. And a few other items we had to get such as the balloons. The walmart pop-up tent was later returned without any problems because it was undamaged. Over all, the budget for this whole shoot was $150 (one hundred and fifty dollars) for set props and costumes. If you can be creative and clever, you can pull off anything.
