Townsendia exscapa is a common early spring blooming perennial from a thick rootstock. It is found on dry hillsides and embankments. The ray flowers are white and the disc is yellow. The flower heads are stem less as the name suggests, and seem to be sitting directly on the ground or on the sparse oblanceolate foliage.
