Location
I shot this photo of a beautiful horse in a small town called Quelite, MexicoTime
This was shot in the middle of the day so in Mexico that's fairly harsh lighting. Luckily the sun wasn't directly on the horse but was reflected off the walls.Lighting
The lighting was all ambient. It was mid day but the horse was in the shade. The colored walls reflected and dispersed the light and gave the horse a soft orange hue that was very complimentary to its natural color.Equipment
My camera a Sony a77 with a Minolta 50mm 1/7 lens. This was shot handheld.Inspiration
Whenever I visit a place, I love to find scenes that typify the location that I'm at. To me, a horse resting under bougainvillea flowers in combination with the yellow adobe wall really gave this scene a flavor of old Mexico.Editing
I did some basic post processing. I adjusted the shadows and highlights, Exposure and increased the vibrance. In my camera bag
I don't like to carry a lot of equipment. I usually have my camera, a wide angle, and a 70-300mm lens. I find I can cover most any shot with that combination.Feedback
My advice to anyone learning photography is to think about, and notice light. Try to actually see shapes and colors presented by light and shadow. Disregard the subject matter for a moment and notice the only light and color, or even lack of it.
