Behind The Lens

Location
This image was taken at Blyth in the north east of England.
Time
it was a cold cold windy morning, with the wind blowing off the sea!
Lighting
Was waiting for the sunrise, but was quite overcast.
Equipment
Taken with a Nikon D7000, Tokina 11-16mm, I took 2 exposures, 1 for the sky and another for the sea, then then blended the exposures in photoshop using luminosity masks.
Inspiration
I wanted something dark and gritty that showed the contrast between the grim north sea and the beauty of a sunrise, but lost out on the sunrise due to the low cloud.
Editing
After exposure blending the 2 images (different exposure lengths) I used the B&W filter, and the curves filter.
In my camera bag
I always carry, my ND filters (10 stop BW & 16 stop IRND), 50mm 1.8D, Tokina 11-16mm, an intervalometer/remote shutter, lenspen & rocket blower, and always a spare battery.
Feedback
Take your time, get your composition right, and most important, lock down your tripod and level your horizon. This image is a great example of using 2 exposures instead of using filters.
