Location
I took this photo in Armstrong Redwoods near Guernville in Sonoma County, CA.Time
This was in the mid-afternoon, as I recall.Lighting
Actually this is a very dense forest with many redwood trees. I just relied on the natural lighting coming through the trees at the time.Equipment
I used a Sony Nex-6 with a 77-55mm lens. Handheld.Inspiration
This is a wonderful state park filled with dramatically huge trees clustered together. I spent several hours there that day, skipping (well, not really!) from one group of trees to another, snapping upward.Editing
The only post-processing was some sharpening with the iphoto sliders. In my camera bag
I carry a shoulder bag with my Sony Nex-6, the 17-55mm, 14mm, 50-200mm and fish-eye lenses, a few cleaning tools as well as two extra batteries and two extra memory cards. I also have a bean bag and small tripod in my car.Feedback
Armstrong was a natural location for this kind of shot. Looking up gives you such a wonderful perspective on so many trees, even those not in what appears to be a circle. I usually take about 5 shots on a tree or trees then move to a different area.
