That's one frosty squirrel! Even appears cold I'll bet he wished he was hibernating now!

This squirrel really looks the part. I've never seen one that actually looked cold. Nice capture.

My wife and I were about to retire from 35 years of teaching in Florida, so we purchased a home in Etowah, North Carolina. Its in a beautiful area in the mountains of Western North Carolina about 10 miles from the Pisgah National Forest. Our home there is about 300 feet fro the French Broad River which attract a vast amount of wildlife. We were up visiting from our Florida home on Spring Break. On that particular visit we had a very unusual snow. This shot was taken through back our sliding glass door. The squirrel was sitting motionless on our deck railing as the snow was coming down.Time
The time was early in the morning of 4/7/2009. Luckily I had my camera set up in front of the sliding glass door on a tripod.Lighting
The lighting was fairly dim so it was great that the squirrel wasn't moving and that I had the camera on a tripod, ready. Distance from squirrel approx. 15 feet Exif info … Focal Length 180 mm (35mm format = 270 mm) 1/60 ISO 200 f 5.6 Aperture priority Exposure mode auto White Balance autoEquipment
The gear that I used was … - Nikon D90 - Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR - Amvona carbon fiber tripod - Nikon remote release cordInspiration
The early morning unexpected snow and having the camera set up and ready, anticipating that a picture opportunity might take place was my motivation. I never expected this, but I am so glad I was ready.Editing
The only post-processing was some cropping and a little adjustment of the contrast and exposure. In my camera bag
