Florida is a haven in winter for many species of Terns. It was very early spring down in the Everglades when I took this shot so there were still some “wintering” terns about. Since terns tend to interbreed, I was only able to definitely identify the tern on the right, which is called a Caspian tern. The orange legs identify it as a Caspian but the beak is that of a Elegant tern. The head feathers are of another tern called the Royal tern. It is very possible that the one on the left is a young Caspian tern as they do have orange legs and their beaks are not quite as red, just not as long. It would seem that the two are in a discussion of some kind. Maybe between father and son “don’t you go anywhere! “ “I‘m going anyway. You can’t stop me!” Enjoy.
