Location
This photos was taken at Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, CanadaTime
It was taken in the late afternoon, around 5-6 pmLighting
The later afternoon light was night, but there was a storm coming on that evening so the additional clouds helped to add to the nice light hitting the mountainsEquipment
A Nikon D600 with a wide angle. Camera was mounted on a tripod.Inspiration
I was on vacation in the Canadian Rockies and everything about this scene captured the essence of that part of the world to me: the colour of the water, the mountain peaks surrounding the lake and even the pine trees in the foreground.Editing
I did a little bit of selective lightening/darkening/etc using the Nik software tools to warm up the tones on the mountain and to bring down some of the highlights. And then some sharpening, of course. In my camera bag
Nikon D600 camera body, a f2.8 14-24 wide angle lens, and few other assorted lenses. Polarizing filters and graduated neutral density filters. It's not in the bag, but I use a manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Time of day and lighting makes a great deal of difference. It's one thing to find yourself in a beautiful scene, but you really need to find the best situations in order to make the most of it.
