This is one of series of photos I took from Shiprock Mountain. Alone and standing at the middle of arid land of New Mexico. It was at subzero degree when I took this photo and the sun was struggling its way out in the clouds just to let me witness the beauty of Shiprock Mountain that I could ever imagine. The bone chilly winter made my nerves so numb but my eyes told me don't wink, otherwise you will never see this beauty again. Nevertheless, my mind whispered to me, "You have already recorded it in your camera and forever you will cherish this beauty." Anyway, Shiprock is a landmark of ShipRock Township in New Mexico.

Location
I took the photo in the town of Shiprock, New Mexico, USA.Time
I took the photo at exactly 9:43 AM winter time.Lighting
It was at the middle of winter. The sun was not really striking that harsh to my subject. It showed up enough for me to catch the shimmering golden reflection to my subject and after 20 minutes it went to hide again up in the horizon and covered with dramatic clouds which acted as great soft box into my subject.Equipment
Canon EOS-1D X, Manfratto Tripod, Canon lens 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM.Inspiration
I was inspired by the story that this Shiprock is one of the Holy Rock where the Native Americans do their rituals and praying. I was also inspired by the story that this Shiprock is one of the most photographed subjects in the country. Above all I was inspired and invited by its beauty that telling you to come and check why it is very popular.Editing
Yes I did. I took bracketed exposure to make HDR. I did it in Photoshop and Nik Software. In my camera bag
I have 3 canon cameras with 3 canon lenses mounted in it. The specification of the lenses defends upon on what I have to shoot and what i considered in my planning. Manfratto Tripod, Trigger release, Helliopan ND filters, Heliopan circular Polarizers, Singh-Ray ND Filters,Feedback
Preparation is one of the most important thing to consider when you will be out there to take photos. Shall we say planning. In your planning you need to consider the place and what type of lights you will be catching when you go there. Prepare for the worst especially when it is winter. Very tough when you are in the desert because nothing can cover you there so have survival kit. When you are at the point where you have your composition already so you can take shots of your subject and always be happy.
