Location

NWC of Apache Blvd. & Rural Rd. in Tempe, Arizona

Time

9:30 a.m., March 16, 2007

Lighting

Typical sunny day in Arizona

Equipment

Canon EOS-1DS Mark II with a 24-70mm, 1/500 sec, f8, ISO 100, focal length 68mm taken from helicopter

Inspiration

The former bank building was demolished to make way for new graduate student housing on the Arizona State University campus but the roof was very unique and it was preserved. The geodesic dome was built in 1962 and was very futuristic at the time, it is 145 feet in diameter. It has since been moved across the street and is incorporated into another student housing project as a sun shade in a commons area.

Editing

None to speak of, shot in a raw format and balanced in photoshop.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 24-70mm lens plus 70-200mm when and if required

Feedback

Aerial photography can be lots of fun and very rewarding. Plan where and know where your subject is before taking off, time is money in aerial photography, be prepared. Remember, no photo is worth risking lives, safety first.
