Behind The Lens

Location

Plocica, it is a tiny lighthouse isle between Hvar and Korcula islands in the Adriatic Sea (Croatia).

Time

Date and time, December 23rd, 2004 @ 13:24:34, quoth the Exif...

Lighting

Winter, sunny outdoors. Very much light, beautiful winter day, appreciated by camera's Daylight WB. The elements: 1/250 sec, f/5, ISO 64, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode Pattern, Flash Off, Focal Length: 51 mm

Equipment

SONY F-828, Skylight filter (81B). Hand-held shot, zoomed-in.

Inspiration

I just broke the sunglasses at the hinge, and looked what to do with the useless thing, since it got broken in a way that could not be repaired. The shape of this Opunzia seemed just about right for this joke...

Editing

Nothing special needed be done except a slight crop.

In my camera bag

Two cameras. One will have a flexible zoom range, the other has to be waterproof. I carry both in my photo jacket pockets. Other pockets hold spare batteries, filters (CPL,Skylight, and a stack of NDs), also some outdoors thingies I need when wandering in the Outdoors: a lighter or matches, a pocket knife, some length of cord, a flashlight, piece of reflective foil...

Feedback

Being alone in a faraway location means accepting all responsibilities, whatever happens. This isle is utterly unapproachable by any means when the winter weather gets severe, so there are some risks involved. For me, the odds were acceptable at such places, and several times I have been on such rocks alone, because of the very special atmosphere in such places. All the sights and photos have managed to outweigh all the latent danger, but I was exceptionally attentive, being aware that I am alone and far away. You might think otherwise, thus if you want to go to such a place, have an earnest talk with yourself prior to the final decision. Be safe, to live long and prosper! :)
