I love your story of the mouse trap. My life's motto...be present in the moment.

Location
This photo was taken in Santa Clara, California as I was walking through the neighborhood, straying from the sidewalk hoping to find something unique or different to photograph.Time
I remember going out around 3 in the afternoon to take photos on the day that I found this rusty little gem. The school bus from the local high school had just dropped off a group of kids full of energy and relief to be done with class for the day. As I passed the group of kids, I adventured a bit further from the sidewalk and it led to me finding a little trap behind a bush.Lighting
It was a good day for photography as far as lighting was concerned with this photo. Most of my photos rely on natural light outdoors and this was no exception. Being behind a bush and under a tree first had me slightly concerned that any detailed characteristics would be darkened by shadows and had me immediately thinking of ways to brighten the situation. As I circled the trap I realized my worries had been for nothing as there were rays of sunshine cutting through the tree and bushes to illuminate the trap and show off the rustic detail.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Sony A-390 using a 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
For a long time I tried to figure out the inspiration behind my photography. I always loved taking photos but could never put the reasoning why into words. It was long after taking this photo that I figured out why and looking back, it completely applied to this photo. Nothing lasts forever and there isn't much we can do to avoid that. We can however use photography to capture a moment in time that is unique and different to every other moment and capture time in an image. It's anybody's guess to how much longer that mouse trap would be laying around posing for the camera, but I was lucky enough to capture that moment in time before it rusted away into just a memory,Editing
The post-processing for this photo was very quick and painless. I genuinely loved the raw version of the photo but I wanted to show the distinctive deterioration and age of the trap. I lightened the shadows in parts while also slightly enhancing the sharpness of the image just enough to emphasize the details that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. After a little tinkering with the brightness to make everything a bit brighter, I ended up with an image I was very happy with!In my camera bag
My equipment is always changing and my bag is always growing whenever I get the chance to get myself a new toy for my photography. Lately my bag has consisted of my Canon Rebel T5i, a 18-55m lens, a 10-18mm lens, and a 55-200mm lens. With these 3 lenses I normally feel entirely prepared to photography anything that comes my way on any given day!Feedback
The only advice I feel can always help anyone is to remember that everything has a story and nothing lasts forever. We can capture any instance we want in an image to keep for eternity. Anything from a mouse trap to a birthday party can be remembered like this and if we aren't the ones to do it, we risk forgetting it or having the story of something fade away. If we remember to not overlook anything, we allow ourselves to see the beauty of things we would otherwise miss, like a broken down mouse trap hiding in the shadows behind a bush.
