Location
This photo was taken on a very chilly winter morning in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stonington, Connecticut.Time
Just after sunrise as the fog has not yet burned off.Lighting
I almost always use natural lighting. This photo is no exception!Equipment
I have two Sony a77II's. I haven't been able to find a better camera for the money! I have a mix of Sony, Tamaron, Sigma, and Minolta lens. I'm on a tight budget. One of the appeals of the Sony A-mounts is that they are compatible with most Minolta autofocus lenses. If you are on a tight budget, as I am, this opens up many possibilities for purchasing used lenses online to expand ones shooting options.Inspiration
This cemetery is steeped in local history. Sea captains, war veterans dating back to the War of 1812, and some unique gothic architecture, can all be found here. I have always found that these old cemeteries are an excellent way of exploring an areas history. A sort of time capsule, if you will.Editing
While I am a huge Photoshop fan, much of my creative work is done with both Topaz Labs' and Google's NIX suites of software. I often find myself switching between the two and their many different offerings within the same photo. I have no pattern that I follow. Rather, each image has a workflow unique to itself. I suppose it could best be described a "freestyle" editing...In my camera bag
I like to travel light. My two cameras and a small equipment bag. An extra wide angle, an extra telephoto, and perhaps one or two fixed prime lenses. This, along with lens cleaner is the norm for me. I use large capacity memory cards and have vertical grips with dual batteries on both cameras. This way, I have less gear to fumble with while I'm out in the field. This has proven advantageous while shooting on a pitching and heaving boat many times over!Feedback
It's often a matter of being at the right place at the right time. that being said, you can always help yourself and improve your chances to get the look you want by monitoring the weather forecast. Nearly everyone has a smartphone today. With the offerings available for apps, you can check for cloud cover, precipitation, humidity, and wind, quite easily. Also, sunrise/set, moon rise, etc. A great time saver!
