You've raised the bar on carnival ride shots...now I want to get something like this...beautifully done!

I love shooting carnival rides also. This one is nicely done. Congrats on the feature; you earned it.

Location
I took this photo in Weymouth, Dorset. A travelling fairground had set itself up on the seafront.Time
This was taken around 8.30pm in the evening just after the sun had set.Lighting
Yes. I thought it would still be too light to achieve the shot I wanted. But it took me around 15 minutes to set the shot up and by that time the light had become more favourable!Equipment
I took this shot with my Nikon D3100 with the kit 18-55mm lens on it. I mounted it on my Benro tripod and had a nd400 grad filter attached to the lens.Inspiration
I had been on the beach with my family all afternoon and as the sun was setting you could really see the lights on the ride clearly. I thought then I would have a go at a long exposure shot of the ride. This is my first ever long exposure shot and I did some quick research on the internet with my Iphone before I attempted it, to get some info on how to set this kind of shot up.Editing
Not a lot to be honest. I cropped the picture slightly and boosted contrast. A quick tweak of the curves was the final piece. In my camera bag
I have now switched to wildlife photography and have changed my gear accordingly. I use a Nikon D500 and a Nikon D7200 bodies. I only use two lenses a Nikon 300mm f2.8vr and a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8. I have a Mindshift Moose Peterson V2.0 backpack, which is simply THE best bag for a wildlife photographer. I also have one Neewer flash, spare cards and batteries and a Manfrotto 055 tripod with a Lensmaster Gimbal head attached.Feedback
Take your time to watch the ride. Work out the different positions it takes during its cycle and pick the best angle you would want to take a picture of. Try taking 4 or five images at different exposures to see what effects it can create. Always mount your camera on a sturdy tripod for long exposure shots. Finally use a remote trigger cable or set your camera on a 2 sec timer to reduce camera shake further.
