Behind The Lens

Location

I took it over a pedestrian bridge I pass by every day but I never use. When I reach the top of the bridge I was surprised to find a dog laying there, is a noisy place to rest but I understand it is also a non transit place.

Time

It was the evening, I hurried to take my camera out without bothering the dog and shot a couple of times trying to catch as much light as I could because the dog was very dark.

Lighting

I remember I had to choose a high ISO to avoid flash. I am not a flash fan and I didn't want to awake the subject. I think the power of this picture lies on the afflicted grain look and the low angle that allow me to catch a bit more of light.

Equipment

That day I had my Nikon D5100 with an 50mm and no flash or tripod.

Inspiration

The scene was so kind, the dog seemed to have found the peace over the road in the bridge. It was resting in the noisy loneliness like the roofless bridge was protecting him in some way. I felt like I have discovered his secret to scape from the crowd and I needed to share that great idea.

Editing

I lighted up the shadows to see better the dog anatomy and modified the channels to reduce the high ISO noisy effect to a smoothly grainy pattern.

In my camera bag

I'm always with my Nikon D7100 and a 50mm lens.
