Bull Buffalo-Bison

A mature male buffalo like this on can stand 5.5 feet at the shoulder and weigh 2000 pounds. This big guy lives in the buffalo area of the 546 acre Lone Elk Park in South St. Louis County. During the early part of the 19th century people killed over 50 million of these majestic animals. they once grazed over much of the united states. However they were slaughtered until there were just a few hundred of them left. Today the have come back and the population is estimated to be around 200,000
