Behind The Lens

Location

The Snack Seeker is one of the birds that regularly visit us, so we've become friends. Swans can be aggressive if they fear you, especially if their young are around, but "our" swans will even let us enter the water and photograph them from small distances.

Time

13:35:20

Lighting

Normal daylight, ditto WB.

Equipment

CANON D-10, hand-held - actually one-hand shot. I had a piece of bread in my left, ofering the swan to take food from my hand. And since all my underwater cameras are DIY-equipped with an added gizmo that enables a one-handed use, it was really a cinch. (Should you want to know something more about that gizmo, let me know!).

Inspiration

The closeness to a "wild animal" that isn't wild at all. And very probably, most people appear as "wild" to them... us here being privileged exceptions.

Editing

Nothing out of the regular routine: crop, color balance, reducement of size for upload, and a little subsequent re-sharpening.

In my camera bag

Two cameras in the pockets of my photo jacket. Some filters, batteries, memory cards, and some useful tools for improvising what I might need at some moments.

Feedback

Befriend an animal as much as you can, and remember they can read your aura (probably), so think nice, friendly, soothing thoughts! Move slowly, showing neither aggression nor fear. It is my deep belief that all animals have the same kind of soul that we have; only inhabiting different bodies. And souls can communicate, many times able to transcend the personal bad experiences. So, animals can be friends, but it depends on how conscious of these facts we are.
