Behind The Lens

Location

The image was taken at my own home. This is my little niece, she is my muse and feels relaxed in front of the camera, maybe it's because she was photographed by me from times when she was baby.

Time

It was midday. Sun was going straight through my window. Love that type of light and my home for it is just perfect.

Lighting

Many people say that it is not good to photograph in sunlight, because it makes hard shadows. But that's why I love it. I love shadows and big contrast in images.

Equipment

It was used my old good Canon 5 D and the most lovable by me lens Canon 50 mm f 1.8. And it only proves that you don't need the newest equipment to get good images.

Inspiration

The shoot wasn't planned. I just saw the perfect situation for my image - beautiful little girl playing with my sons trains (she loves to play with them when she comes to my house), strong sunlight, and dark shadows..... All I needed...

Editing

As always, I worked a little on Camera Raw, then, the most important part I did in Photoshop. And to be honest it didn't need much to do. I only converted image in black and white through gradient map. And then I played with Photoshop to get the best contrast for me.

In my camera bag

In every photo shoot I always take two cameras. Two lenses, both fixed focal length. Safety cover from the rain, because here, in Ireland, you never know what weather is going to be in an hour or two. Few batteries, battery grip (which I never use ) and many CF cards.

Feedback

Be prepared to lie down on the floor. If need, to stay in uncomfortable position, as me shooting this image (I was ready to squeeze through the wall to get good composition). Let child play, don't ask him to look at you. And most important - light. I had to wait minute or two lying in uncomfortable pose just because sun was hiding behind the clouds. But, as you can see, all was worth it ;) P.S. Don't laugh please at my terrible English grammar :D
