Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the lighting studio at PCA&D where I attended college.

Time

I believe this was shot in the evening.

Lighting

The only lighting equipment used for this image was a florescent light with diffusion paper in front of it.

Equipment

The equipment used was a Nikon D3000, a 15-85mm zoom lens, a Manfrotto 190XB tripod and a fog machine.

Inspiration

This photo was actually part of a larger project for my lighting class in college. I created the images as a mixture of what I love: Horror/Macabre (darker tones and fog machine), fantasy, music (especially theatrical/emotional songs), and travel (all masks used were from Venice, Italy}.

Editing

I did very little post processing, I prefer to do as much in camera as I can. All I did in post was some color correction on the skin and used curves/levels to add more contrast and correct clipping.

In my camera bag

What I normally have in my bag now is my Nikon D800 with a polarizing filter, a 15-85mm zoom lens, a 50mm lens, at least two memory cards (usually a 32g and 12g), chargers, and lens cleaning towelettes.

Feedback

Honestly, just go with what feels right to you and shoot a lot. It's not easy getting that one perfect shot. With this I used a pretty simple setup and gave the model a good deal of freedom with the movement.
