Otter with Fish

a River Otter with a freshly caught fish ....a sunfish sometimes called perch locally. Seeing a River Otter is a real treat ....sightings are surprisingly few and far between ....it has been 3 weeks since my last encounter ....and it was most surprising because i didn't expect to ever see one again.
.....This day was overcast and barely above freezing ....and just 5 minutes earlier I was wondering why I don't see any wildlife here today in Rush Lake ....I circled the dam and as the road was taking me out I noticed a breeze had just blown over the middle of the lake ....other than that the lake was dead calm ....for whatever reason I kept staring at the little waves the wind had created ....it seemed a little odd so I put my binoculars down and grabbed the lens ....3 seconds later a River Otter materialized.
......River Otters have huge ranges and could be anywhere ...but this one was slowly making its way from way out in the middle of the lake to shore ....1 or 2 dives and it would reappear again even closer ....during the excitement I had pulled over the truck and was battling with the shore trees and grasses ....getting a clear shot was not so easy as the Otter kept moving ....so now I am standing about as close as I can get without interrupting anything ....still shooting as it is about 10 feet from shore and it dives once more
.....Now this gets crazy .....i would say 50 feet down the shoreline the biggest ruckus you can imagine occurs ....I look over there and splashed water is just falling back into the lake and land ....a huge Blue Heron landed not half a second later arriving from the other side of the lake....other than that i can't see what is going on
.....The River Otter reappears and is swimming away from the noisy disturbance ....and much to my dismay ....it had indeed caught this here fish ....
.....Strange as it may seem ....I have no idea how in this world that River Otter transported itself that far to catch that fish in that amount of time. It occured within a second of the last dive .....it was faster than you would ever believe ....if you can think of fast ....think faster than that ....now you're talking ....I am talking about the speed of a lightning bolt .....and you would be mistaken not to believe me
......Even more surprising is that the Heron knew what that Otter was up to on its last dive and was already on its approach to try and steal that fish from the Otter ....well, that Otter kept that fish.
