This reminds me of a shot from a video by the band \" IN This Moment \" . If that's what you were going after , you nailed it 😎

That wasn’t the inspiration, but thank you! In this moment/Maria are a really fun band!

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken at my home studio in Illinois
Time
We took this photo in the evening during winter because my studio has large windows and we wanted to be able to control the studio lights as much as possible without any sun interference
Lighting
This was a single light set up using an Alien Bee and Paul C Buff PLM above the model and slightly tilted to add more light to her body
Equipment
This was photographed with my Nikon d850 and a sweet 50 Lensbaby
Inspiration
I was in a bit of a creative rut, so I asked my friend who has been modeling for me for many years to come over and just create. We blasted music, had wind blowing in her hair, and she just danced and flowed through her posing while I played with the movement and focus on the Lensbaby
Editing
The effects were all done in camera via the Lensbaby, but I did some light skin retouching and edited the photo to be black and white
In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon d850 and 35mm lens, it very rarely leaves my camera body. I also have been utilizing fractal filters into my daily work. And always pack extra batteries and memory cards just in case!
Feedback
Break the “rules”! It’s ok to take all of the technical things you’ve learned and throw them out the window from time to time. Engage with your subject, play your favorite music, and don’t be afraid to take some photos that might not turn out so you can capture moments like this.
