Humans are attracted to water, not just as a life source, but also as a symbol of beauty and power. Not many of the water sources on this planet are more beautiful than a tropical waterfall. Rain flooding streams, and falling over a large cliff can create a wonderfully memorizing tail of water. The roaring sounds of the water pounding into the pool below remind one of the power with which this liquid moves. Perhaps it is the combination of beauty and power is the reasoning for the attraction.
