I got up at 2 am to join a photographer friend of mine and hike up to a lake in the mountains for a sunrise shot of a mountain peak. After hiking through the snow we spent nearly two hours searching with headlamps for the perfect crack in the lake ice that would act as a leading line, heading toward the peak. It was cold and the wind blew pretty hard. The sky started to light up, but all the light was to our backs, with no clouds over the peak. We abandoned our plan of photographing the mountains, turned around, and shot the magnificent sunrise behind us, and the light reflecting off the ice.
