The tree that this cavity burrow is in is located in the front yard of a home close to where I live. The tree is only 2ft from the sidewalk leading to a front door and 10 ft from the house itself. Nature has provided this species with some excellent camouflage and they know how to use it. While she was perched at the entrance of the burrow, I watched this female fluff her feathers so that they extended beyond the edge of the tree's bark. Then she moved backwards so her feathers fanned outward against the bark of the tree, filling in most of the gaps between her and the tree, and allowing her to blend in. Because of poor lighting conditions at the time, a tripod was a necessity. I also used the camera in “live view” to minimize vibration from “mirror slap” and a shutter release to further reduce camera shake. I had to look twice at this picture. I though you had photo edited the owl to blend it with the tree. I love it!

This is an insanely excellent capture! I love the brown, natural colors in this...and that one green eye! Also really love the sharpness...each feather stands out so beautiful. Love this whole thing!

This is such an interesting shot that I had to keep looking at it. Talk about camouflage! It has tack-sharp focus on the eye - you can even see the catch light. Awesome image! Well done.

DUDE! WOW @@ That's an amazing shot! Congratulations! Thank you for showing your works, which are also amazing. I just looked at your other pictures and I'm mesmerized with them. I love the high contrast and how dark the black colors are while still having bright vivid colors. Also the DOF perfectly placed. I love the back blown out - subject isolation. The sharpness of the subject contrasted with the rear DOF boundary looks great.
