When there’s a sense of familiarity, it can be quite challenging and unpredictable at the best of times when trying to take photos of teen-aged subjects, preferably not in their element.

At times, they’re either running away from you in the opposite direction, or making faces and hand gestures which ummmm makes one take a deep sigh of hopelessness. Kind of reminds me of a child-like person running around the garden in circles trying to catch the impossible, as the butterflies escape to freedom through a hole in the net, only this time, it’s me with a camera. Yes, crazy eccentric mother’s at it again, taking more photos.

So I thought I’d try a different approach on this particular day and do something a little out of the ordinary and take a rare glimpse by looking into my son’s World through his eyes. I drew back the curtains in his room to allow for as much natural light as possible and sat patiently on the floor ... waiting for the right moment, while he continued playing with his Play Station game.

Every time he fired shots using the hand controllers, his eyes would remain fixated like in some kind of hypnotic trance and glued to the big plasma television screen, I would mimic the same noise using my camera set on shutter speed. After a while, he twigged on to what I was doing and he thought it was funny, as he gazed into the lens of the camera I captured the magic moment, a warm and friendly smile of a kind and gentle soul.

Moments like these I will always treasure, having a sense of humor and plenty of patience paid off.
