Manning was a financier of American Car Company "Auburn", not an automobile man, and Duesenberg president Harold Ames was brought in to serve as executive vice president of Auburn. There wasn't much activity at Duesenberg by that time, and Ames was able to bring with him Gordon Buehrig and August Duesenberg, respectively chief stylist and chief engineer at Duesenberg, Inc. Together, they reengineered this fabulous car in 1935, which was known for it's sustained speeds of over 100 mph...the first of it's kind built...with the American consumer in mind
