I was at Moeraki boulders (during my 2 days stay) before sunrise to capture the variations in lights and colors.
I used two exposures to make this image. First for the sun and the other for the boulders and the sky. I spent about 1/2 hr working on the composition and left my camera on the tripod when I was happy with this one.
I started taking photos when I saw the light and vibrant colors started to pop on the horizon until the sun was over the horizon and I have captured all the exposures I could possibly require to make a photo. I blended the 2 exposures carefully and used masking to carefully target or should I say exaggerate the colors and contrast at certain areas.
I wanted to be sure that I get enough boulders in the image but still don't over crowd the frame with them.

This photograph is an example (among many) of why we should be able to give multiple awards. I'd give this one an award for creativity, composition, and masterpiece. In my opinion, it's balanced, beautiful to look at, peaceful, but it seems to tell a bit of a story, too. I'd be interested to hear more about how you made this photograph. Great job.

Thanks a ton Jon for such kind words, I have just updated a brief discription about the image. Hope that's fine :)
