After 2 hours of fruitless effort on photographing a beautiful lake I was going to call it a night. I turned around to head back to my car parked in this gravel parkinglot with a single badly orange tinted street light. I noticed steep contrasting shadows on the gravel along with the stars above. My depressing photo session turned into an hour of fun trying to best capture this single light source. It didn't help that it was extremely windy and that my exposure had to be 10-30 seconds long. Also, originally I thought this kind of shot would be too generic and simple but it's been one of my favorites in the brief times I get out to shoot. My lesson learned that night is that opportunities are everywhere. All you need to do is to not be entrenched in what you were planning to shoot but to adapt. I went from shooting a beautiful lake and instead did a 180 with my tripod and captured a parkinglot. Even the most mundane of subjects can be extraordinary.
