Story behind the photo:
I went to photograph this shipwreck at sunset, and at night with star trails. However, typical Oregon Coast weather showed up and it was overcast the whole time. I decided to improvise, and used my spotlight to illuminate the ship from the inside with a 30 sec exposure, just as the tide line reached the ship (for reflectivity of the water). The sky to the left is orange from the city lights and is dark to the right from the ocean.

Very cool shot! I love night photography. So much more you can do by adding light. Well done.

Great question - yes there was continual light. I set the timer on my camera to 10 seconds, ran over to the inside of the ship, and flashed a spotlight on high for 30 seconds through the holes in the ship (except through the holes pointing towards the camera). The light was fairly bright (5,000 lumens), which helped a lot!

OK, that's a seriously awesome shot. I think the only thing that could make this better is if perhaps the Milky Way could be seen overhead. Nice work, and congrats on the feature!

Nice! And congratulations. I have a bunch of shots of the Peter Iredale but never thought to light it from inside. I do have plans to setup inside the structure and shoot the stars through its remaining beams though. This is a great shot!
