A female spiny leaf stick insect (Extatosoma tiaratum). The females of this species have reduced wings and are unable to fly. She will spend most of her time in the same tree eating leafs and producing eggs that she will flick away with her tail. The eggs have a protein coating that attract ant who will carry the eggs underground. The eggs feed on the protein coating but don't damage the egg. When the egg hatches the nymph, which is an ant mimic to avoid predation by the ants, will crawl back up to the ground and climb the nearest tree.
