I was asked recently about my views on obstacles confronting female landscape photographers. One of my observations was that it is more frequently men who put themselves in harm's way, or put forth the effort required to get to spectacular but less accessible location. This image was me returning to the scene of the demise of my first DSLR and almost myself under a rogue wave. Very scary stuff. But I am one of those rarer girls who love to get up close and personal with powerful and dramatic water. You just do it with an awareness that sometime you will be caught out.

It's brave of you to return to the location where your old SLR rests in peace. Have to agree, us men do seem a little more adventurous, I have often found myself in rather sticky situations, especially shooting seascapes which is my main point of interest. I recently waterlogged my DLSR on a shoot in Indonesia - getting way to close to some huge waves, the inevitable was bound to happen. My wife used to come on some shoots but we would always end up in some sort of peril, so she now prefers to stay at home with a book and a glass of wine. Anyway, love the image Hilary it's a very powerful scene, in fact I really like all your work so keep the photo's coming!

I love shooting these close up, the results are far more spectacular than using a zoom from further back. This one's a gem! Good on you for going back!
