For my birthday this year I knew I was going to be in an amazing location, Monument Valley on the Arizona/Utah border. Before I arrived I envisioned shooting the "Mittens" (the valleys most popular features) through the double doors of my tent.
Before arriving I had no clue what the campsite would be like, or how it would be situated in relation to the mittens. When we arrived we were ecstatic to find our site situated perfectly with the Mittens directly outside of our tent. I strategically placed my tent. The first night we were in Monument valley I used as an opportunity to observe the end of day light and scout not only the light but our campsite. On day two, which happened to be my birthday, I was setup 2 hours before sunset. Tinkering with the level of my camera, the width of my frame and the entire scene. When it came time to take this shot everything fell perfectly into place. The shadow of the west mitten being cast on the east mitten. It was a moment I will never forget
