I just returned from a week in the Bahamas. On the 3rd day I looked up to see this complete halo around the sun. Scientists call this a 22-degree halo due to its radius being approximately 22-degrees. The halo is caused by the refraction and reflection of millions of tiny ice crystals trapped high up in a thin layer of cirrus clouds. This often means it could rain because high cirrus clouds can frequently appear before a storm.
