On the Shark Valley Trail in Everglades National Park, I came across this large (8-10ft) American Alligator that had just hauled himself up out of the marsh and was resting in the grass next to the water. He kept his mouth open to cool himself. I watched him for a few minutes to be sure he wasn't in an aggressive mode then walked around in front, knelled down and took the shot. I was about 15 feet away. Not wanting to tempt fate too much on this day, I didn't stay in front very long.
