Now protected in the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, this tree once stood on a floodplain during the Triassic period over 225 million years ago. Over time, these trees became petrified when silica and other minerals replaced the organic matter. The slow, complex process of continental drift moved the land from its original tropical location near the equator to where it is today. It is truly a testament to the power and wonders of nature.
