Johnston Canyon might be the busiest trail in the Canadian Rockies but it’s one of those must-do's when you’re in the area. It says that it’s accessible all year round, that means even in winter time! With a well-paved trail, catwalks and bridge crossings, stunning limestone cliffs, deep canyon walls, cascading waterfalls and mineral spring pools, no wonder hundreds of hikers’ flock this area.
Since Banff was suffering from the haze brought by the forest fire that day, we decided to check out Johnston Canyon. Got there early, had enough time to appreciate the canyon’s beauty while on our way to the canyon's upper falls. Having only photos from the web as our guide, we can’t seem to locate the waterfalls with a “canyon cave” until we reached a viewing deck, looked down and bingo!! The cave can be reached by taking a steep trail down the viewing platform where you can go near the waterfalls. Tried to get as close that I can, ended up using half a box of Kimwipes dealing with the spray. LOL! Something different from my usual lake, sea, and mountain shots. Opted for a vertorama since a single landscape image doesn’t do justice! Let me know what you think!
