As my brother Martin and I arrived at Haifoss very early in the morning we were seriously surprised by the high winds both on the top of the cliffs and in the valley itself. Even though the sun slowly appeared above us it never became warm at the bottom. It's possible to walk even deeper into the valley where you will find a second waterfall. On the path you will see enormous blocks of ice that have fallen into the valley from high above (some of the ice is seen as a white triangle in the background). Passing the first waterfall required a raincoat (which we didn't bring!) due to the winds blowing mist all around the fall and up into the air. It was a truly amazing place and a place I would like to return to some day. Awareness and attention to the dangers of wandering around in this valley is necessary though and I would not walk down there alone. My brother and I had a 'fruitful' discussion about exactly how many days you could lay right there in the bottom of the valley under a big chunk of ice, before some unfortunate hiker would find you...well we also took some photos!..:O)...

Thank you Tyson. Iceland is a dramatic place in itself with a nature I cannot get enough of. It took me a while but I finally have come to the conclusion to use my money on travels and courses and not just gear. Iceland is for sure a place I can recommend.

Thanks Jayne, I would wish that I could travel to Iceland every year, but as I can't I enjoy occasionally looking at the 'old' photos and remember the circumstances around taking them. For this photo it was the high winds at the top of the waterfalls that made me and my brother walk down into the canyon, which I don't regret doing, besides the very tough walk back up again, with all the camera gear, heavy tripod and a drone😀😀

Hi Joe. Haifoss is really a bucket list for me to return to one day and even though I might not get a similar shot, the feel and sight of the place is amazing and in a good way a humbling experience.
