Brighton West Pier was designed by Eugenius Birch and first opened in 1866. It was Brighton second pier and was designed to attract tourism to the city. A pavilion and a concert hall were added later. It was closed in 1975 due to safety concerns. Part of it was damaged by storm in 2002. Sadly, it was destroyed by fire in 2003. It is believed that the fire was started by arsonists. What you see on the picture is what has remained from West Pier today.
