Joshua Tree National Park in California is somewhere I strongly recommend that you include on your list of places to go, and you absolutely HAVE to spend the night! The park is slightly bigger than the state of Rhode Island and it's filled with surprises. I mean really. Along with the peculiar Joshua Trees and baffling rock formations, you'll find tarantulas, snakes, and possibly even the mountain lion that happened to pay us a visit while we were taking these photos! (It was actually a fox, but after a long day and a few beers, you tend to think the worst when you see a pair of glowing eyes in the distance.)
Anyways, all of those surprises combined can hardly hold a candle to seeing THE MILKY WAY in all its glory.
Seriously, I've never seen anything more beautiful. We truly live in a fabulous universe and are lucky to call this incredibly beautiful and unique planet home, it's a shame more of it isn't protected from our stupid destructive behavior like Joshua Tree.
