The Tanzanian and Kenyan governments have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, but the people have continued their customs. They are considered one of the tallest people in the world, with an average height of 6 ft 3 inches according to some reports.

Makes me wonder why the government would interfere in the first place. This is their culture, their tradition and way of life. It's beautiful and unique and they should remain to be as free as they like. How did you approach them for a photo? I mean, other than mesmerizing them by your stunning beauty obviously?

I'm with Elyzabeth on her opinion of the Maasi. I certainly like this portrait of this chieftain. Nicely captured with great color and clarity. My compliments on being a finalist in the Ancient Cultures photo contest.
