Appreciating and being grateful to the past, present, & future generations of all Native Nations & Indigenous Peoples, whole ancestral lands we explore, visit and play. Please always impose a LEAVE NO TRACE ethic on your exploration, adventures, & expeditions. Follow local regulations. Love the only planet we have. Please do not trash her. Now, the latest unfortunate trend has been for people dumping the RV waste tanks any place they wish. That's just wrong!

These are Rousette Fruit Bats that can be found at Monfort Sanctuary, Island Garden City of Samal, Philippines. This colony is believed to be the largest in the world with 1.8 million Rousette Fruit Bats. According to the Guinness Book of World REcords, it is the single largest colony in existence. Their diet is consists of fruits and nectar. Bats don't hibernate and they dislike the cold weather. So Bats can usually be found in a tropical place like the Philippines. Bats are nocturnal, these Bats were sleeping when I took this photo.

Sweatpea72, the sanctuary is nearby the ocean that is why when these bats are awake they will fly and cross the ocean head to Davao area where they can find lots of fruits.

Trapster, Million thanks. I bump up a little the color because I just tried the raw one does not really do so good because it is more pale. Our computer has different color, and when we download it in the website you can notice another shade of color.

danielmartin, some people believe that picture is worth a thousand words and I have another belief, A PICTURE IS MORE STRONGER WHEN THOUSAND WORDS EXPLAIN IT." hahahaha, Anyway, I just love to say something. I was a long been teacher and I always talk, now that I concentrated to photography I need to talk about my photography. Million thanks for your words of wisdom. The first thing that I wanted to look at there in VB are the comments because I love reading them.

Recorded in the World Guinness Book of Record. It is a single largest colony. So this is the largest among the bat colony around the world. Pretty amazing huh.

Elyzabeth, Million thanks, I just love how they filed up themselves in the crowd. Might be the cave is a little cold because they want warm bodies around.

Incredible shot! And thanks for the very informative discussions on bats! I've been trying for weeks to capture the shy bat living under my eaves. Your Rousette photos are amazing and inspiring me to keep trying. Thank you!

Mastapeace, photographers are always trying to and don't stop trying yourself to capture the most wonderful photos could be bats or whatever. That is our advantage of using DSLR, no worry if we were mistaken in using it because we can just delete it and try again until we succeed.

Jie, is the place is just the same as that of the Monfort Bat Cave ? As what I've read is the world largest colony of Rousette Fruit Bats with estimated 2.5 million bats. This distinction was also entered in the Guiness Book of World Records.

NatureLoverJJWal March 26, 2014
Zel, this is really in Monfort. yes they are single largest colony, meaning the biggest and it is the lone largest colony.

Really amazing!an absolute masterpiece!personally,i haven't encountered this colony of bats. They are furry and cute mammals, fruit bats are also dubbed as megabats but that does not always mean that the bat is going to be large. You are right, while some bat species are willing to hibernate the fruit bat is not one of them. They live in colonies that are very large in size because they feel safer with numbers...You've done a remarkable job taking this photo...

Well, miss Elen, when you visited Philippines you need to go to that place. There you can see them and beside it is just half hour away from Davao City. Plus you can enjoy the wonderful beach around the city. Million thanks for your comment. Feel free to visit and embrace the beauty of these Rousette Fruit Bats. They are so unique and when you will be there you need to stay a night so you can watch the tornado like formation they are performing when they are about to get out and fly to look for food.
