Evening (or at this time of year, late afternoon) light remains in the tops of the trees. I thought about this shot in advance and placed the lone shadowy fir trunk just so in the foreground. The green trees and clear blue sky are closely related colours and are part of my compositional plan. Yes, this is a photo of the last rays of sun, but the composition helps carry the message more completely, There is the subject matter but also the theme of last light.
