Please meet ViewBug community member Ā and family photographerĀ Chrissywphoto. My name is Chrissy and I am a family photographer located in San Diego, CA. I have a love for documenting families in every stage, including my own. I love to see the ways in which other photographers shoot and edit.

I love photography because it is one of the few means of capturing all the fleeting moments in life. As a mother of two little girls, I feel as though time is slipping through my fingers. I often photograph them, places Iā€™ve been, and events I am apart of to keep my memories preserved.

My camera lets me to express the way I feel about my life and surroundings. My camera lets me see things differently as I look through the viewfinder and compose a shot. I can focus in on something small to magnifying itā€™s significance. I stand back and take in a whole scene of something about to happen. I love being able to tell stories with images whenever and of whatever I want to!

I find inspiration when I see people connecting. I love human connection. Iā€™m partial to all things motherhood but also moved by the little in-between moments people do not even realize. The gentle brushing away of hair from a childā€™s eye, tiny hands in mom or dadā€™s hands, the love in the room after a new child is born, are just a few moments that are so natural but produce the most sentimental images.

One of the photos I am most proud of is ā€œJust a girl and her dog...ā€ because it was taken when I first started getting into photography. I didnā€™t know then what I know now but still managed to capture my dog and my daughter in a sweet moment I could have easily missed. Sometimes, when I get caught up in client sessions, or forget what drives me, I look at this image and remember it is the simple moments that are most worth capturing.

My favorite place to shoot is at home because I am passionate about documenting life. I love watching my girls run around our home, playing in the yard with our dog, playing together with their toys on the floorā€¦ I love the challenge of finding light, being creative in a space I have shot in a thousand times and making it seem new.

One of my favorite photos on ViewBug is ā€œSelfPortrait_SkinnerC_1ā€ by christinasylvesterskinner. This image reminds me how incredible it is to be a mom. Our kids will grow up and this moment in the life of a mother becomes a memory forgotten. I wish all moms, including myself, could see themselves just like this. It inspires me to get in more photos with my kids. It reminds me how important it is to document my own special connection with them. For an image to make that impact on a viewer, to me, makes it great.

My favorite lens is hands down, Sigma Art 50mm f1.4

These are 3 quick tips Iā€™d like to share with fellow photographers:

1. Shoot every single day.
2. ALWAYS look for videos, forums, workshops to learn more. There is ALWAYS something to learn.
3. Work with the equipment youā€™ve got and do not focus on what you donā€™t have. You can have the best equipment, camera bag, and all the accessories, but those things do not make you a good / better photographer.

My favorite item in my camera bag is my Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 and my Blackrapid camera strap.

If I could shoot one dream location it would be Alaska because my parents took one of my cameras on a cruise up there and came back with some pretty amazing shots. I would love to capture the people, landscapes, animalsā€¦ It just looks so beautiful! I do not shoot very many landscapes so Alaska would be very inspiring!
