Here is something we can learn from Tomek about the techniques and story behind this awarded photo:

"One day I was going through my numerous photo folders from different trips, travels, parties, friends, etc. and I saw I have a number of pics I called "artistic", even if they weren't intended as such. Didn't know anything about photography as art and/or hobby, for me at that stage photography meant "camera at the parties or tourist trips"
So I've decided to collect them all into one folder, ad then discovered VB and decided to share them to see what people say... Feedback encouraged me to get more envolved, and I found myself suddenly in love with photography, wanting to learn more and improve my shots. Never had time to take any photography classes or courses, nor read any books. I was just following my intuition and shot what I liked and how I liked it. So now I've invested in my first dslr camera, Nikon d3200 with 18-200mm tamron lens, for which i believe they are good for beginners. So only my more recent shots (uploaded to my Gallery from February 2014) are my dslr "firstborns", everything else was taken just with simple tourist cameras, pocket-sized.

I would love to hear your comment and above all constructive critique as that is the best way to learn, and already learned so much so far just by advice and suggestions from good altruistic photographers here, willing to share their knowledge and inspiration! So thank you all guys, I so appreciate it and owe you so much!

Hope you all enjoy some of my photos! If at least one makes you feel better, happier, or brings a smile on your faces - I'm happy!
So in return, help me learn and improve! Thanks."

1. Where did you take this photo?

This photo was taken on the streets of Rome, Italy, just after the carnival parade.

2. What time of day?

It was afternoon, and city was crowded due to the carnival events, as obviously the mother is taking those tow kids back from the carnival party and parade.

3. Anything worth sharing about lighting?

Lighting is completely natural, flash wasn't used.

4. What equipment did you use?

Only my Nikon D3200 and Tamron 18-200mm lens. And my knees and elbows.

5. What inspired you to take this photo?

A nice moment and to show the contrast of society, even more because the "little princess" was coming along...

6. Did you do any post-processing? If yes, tell us about it!

Just some basic corrections, and conversion to black and white.

7. What equipment do you normally have in your bag?

My Tamron lens 18-200mm, Nikon prime lens 50mm/1.8, my Nikon D3200, remote control for shutter release, and maybe a small pocket size tripod that can come in handy when I'm not carrying my big tripod. I rarely take external flash with me.

8. Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?

Be brave and don't be afraid to get dirty. Don't be embarassed. I was lying on the ground, next to the beggar woman, on the crowded pavement - some people passing by maybe looked at me, but generally people weren't bothered. Very often all the "embarrassment" is only in our heads - get over it and shoot!
