Here is something we can learn from tcr18h about the techniques and story behind this awarded photo.

1. tcr18h,where did you take this photo?

The London Underground at London Bridge.

2. What time of day?

This was taken early in the afternoon.

3. Anything worth sharing about lighting?

I used the available light from the tunnel lighting.

4. What equipment did you use?

A Nikon D700 camera and a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens.

5. What inspired you to take this photo?

The design of the tunnel, which has a sci-fi edge to it, caught my attention. It reminds me of films such as Alien.

6. Did you do any post-processing? if yes, tell us about it!

The only processing I used was to lift shadows and some local and global sharpening in Lightroom.

7. What equipment do you normally have in your bag?

I usually carry a Nikon D700 body with several memory cards and the following lenses: Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8, Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 and sometimes a Nikkor 50mm f1.4. I often take with me a small strobe unit and spare batteries. I always carry a rocket blower for clearing dust from the lenses and a cleaning brush.

8. Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?

I would recommend using a wide angle lens or even a fish eye lens which will work best in these tight environments. Make sure your camera shutter speed is sufficient as these locations are usually poorly lit. Choose a higher iso if needed to get a decent shutter speed to avoid camera shake that would ruin the final image. Tripods and flash units are not allowed in these locations. Also make sure you don't get in the way of other travelers using these areas so be quick and don't hang around, preferably choose a quieter time of day.
