Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Pocahontas, MS. at the private airport of David Mars (who is also flying the plane)

Time

Between 2-3 in the afternoon

Lighting

Natural light with a reflector to the face for fill.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark II with EF 24-105L lens.

Inspiration

I had the opportunity to meet Davis Mars who has a wide collection of vintage airplanes. I immediately envisioned creating something "North by Northwest". The dress was made from a World War II parachute the designer (Jennifer Chou, https://www.etsy.com/people/ASAPBay? ) found on Ebay. I have to say this image was tricky! It took numerous passes by the aircraft to nail it.

Editing

I used the B&W Polaroids from Alienskin Software to give this image that old movie poster feel.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark II, EF 24-105L, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens, two primes, 85mm and 50mm, Canon 580ex II flash, Pocket Wizards and several large reflectors are always in my bag.

Feedback

All I can say is patience and a great team! As I mentioned before, it took numerous passes of the plane. Great pilot and brave model were key. Just take your time and make sure you have what you want in camera. This was a once in a lifetime shoot.
